These terms cover your use of millsriverschoolpto.com. By browsing the site, signing up for emails, RSVPing to an event, donating through the link on this site, or (once available) making a payment on it, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site — and let us know what’s wrong so we can fix it (see Questions? below).
Who runs this site
Mills River Elementary PTO (“the PTO,” “we,” “us”) is a volunteer-run parent-teacher organization serving Mills River Elementary School in Mills River, NC. The PTO is organized as a 501A entity, not a 501(c)(3) public charity (board decision, July 2026) — meaning donations to the PTO are not tax-deductible. This site is built and maintained by parent volunteers to share PTO news, events, meeting minutes, and ways to get involved.
Acceptable use
Please use this site the way it’s intended — to stay informed and connected with the PTO. Don’t:
- Try to access accounts, admin pages, or data that aren’t yours.
- Probe, scan, or attack the site’s security.
- Submit spam, malicious content, or false information through our forms.
- Scrape or republish site content for commercial purposes.
- Use the site to harass, impersonate, or misrepresent yourself to others.
We use automated bot-screening (Cloudflare Turnstile) and rate limits on our forms and login page. Repeated automated or abusive use may be blocked without notice.
Accounts for board members, teachers, and volunteer editors
Most of this site is open to everyone — you don’t need an account to browse news, events, meeting minutes, or resources, or to RSVP or sign up to volunteer. A small number of accounts exist for PTO board members, teachers, and volunteer content editors who help run the site. The public cannot create an account — accounts are created only by board invitation. If you have an account, you’re responsible for keeping your password confidential and for anything done under your login. Tell us immediately if you think your account has been compromised.
Content and intellectual property
Text, photos, and materials the PTO publishes here — news posts, event listings, meeting minutes, and similar content — belong to the PTO or are used with permission. Mills River Elementary School’s name may appear on this site to identify the school community we support; the PTO is a separate, parent-run organization from the school itself, and our use of the school’s name doesn’t mean the school or school district operates, endorses, or is responsible for this site’s content. You’re welcome to link to our pages. Please don’t republish our content elsewhere as your own, or use it in a way that implies an affiliation or endorsement we haven’t agreed to.
Links to other sites and services
Some pages may reference or link to outside organizations — the school itself, community event partners, or (for board members preparing flyers) Peachjar, a third-party school-flyer distribution service. We don’t control those outside sites, and once you leave ours, their own privacy policies and terms apply, not ours.
Donations, and payments not yet turned on
Donations are live today, as a link-out. Clicking Donate (in the site’s menu or footer) takes you to a notice page on this site. That page shows a tax-status notice — donations are not tax-deductible, because the PTO is organized as a 501(a) entity, not a 501(c)(3) public charity — and gives you a button to continue to GiveButter (givebutter.com) to complete your gift, or to cancel and return to the site. From the point you continue, GiveButter’s own terms and privacy policy apply to your donation, not ours — this site doesn’t process the payment or collect anything about it.
The Spirit Wear store, Fast Pass, and any other on-site card payments are not live on this site today — the related pages and navigation links don’t appear until the board turns this feature on. When they do:
- Payments are processed by a third-party payment processor. The site is currently built for Stripe; the board may select a different processor before this feature launches. Whichever processor is active, its own terms and privacy policy apply to your payment in addition to these terms.
- The PTO’s own server never receives or stores your full card number.
- Our Refund Policy (linked from the site once payments are live) explains how refunds work for store orders and Fast Pass purchases.
- Store and Fast Pass orders may ask for a pickup name, and in some cases a child’s first name and teacher or grade, solely to verify pickup at school.
No warranty
This site is run by parent volunteers, not a professional publisher. We do our best to keep information — event dates and times, meeting minutes, store inventory, and similar details — accurate and current, but we can’t guarantee it’s always error-free or up to the minute. If something is time-sensitive or important to you, please confirm it directly with the school or a board member. The site and its content are provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Mills River Elementary PTO, its board members, and its volunteers are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of this site — including missed events, lost data, or issues with a transaction — beyond what applicable consumer-protection law requires where payments are involved. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot legally be limited.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the site grows — for example, when online payments launch, that feature will come with its own terms as part of this page. We’ll update the effective date above whenever we make a change. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
